As soon as the game loads, you’ll know you’re in for a treat because the developers took some time with this game. The background shows a dusty, Wild West main street like you would expect from a movie. There are a few fun animations happening in the background that add a level of engagement to the game that you can’t expect from every online slot. To the right of the board, you’ll see a silent bank robber swaying back and forth as if waiting in anticipation for you to win. An even more fun “easter egg” literally shoots across the top of the screen. You occasionally see a bullet fly across the street from the bank to the saloon, and money flies out the window.
The biggest knock on this game is probably that it uses the cliched playing card symbols, and there are a lot of them. They make them thematic by giving them the same facade as you would expect from the wooden buildings of that day. You can also expect to see gold bars, liquor bottles, and banknotes as smaller payout symbols, as well as a safe, a revolver, and a diamond for higher payouts.
They do not disappoint with the audio, either. This game evokes the old western movies of the sixties with a song that trots along like a cowboy’s horse hitting all the right notes. It even has the familiar whistle effect that you would expect from Wild West music. The sound effects weren’t mailed in either with game-specific sounds. Apart from victory horns when you hit a winning line, you can expect other sounds like bullets whizzing by and the sound of a revolver spinning every time you spin the reels.
Features That Will Make You Feel Like You Robbed a Bank
When developers put time and effort into a theme, you know they are going to offer features that are acceptable, at least. While none of these features are groundbreaking, they are fan favorites. The first feature is the most classic of them all, with an update.
The wild symbol is represented by a dynamite-wielding bank robber. Each time you hit a wild, he leaves behind TNT. You’ll notice a TNT detonator with a countdown on the lower left side of the screen. When that countdown hits zero, all the TNT explodes, filling each spot with a wild. Once you collect all your winnings, those wilds drop off, and the countdown restarts.
This game also employs a popular feature called the hold and win feature. The scatter is represented by saloon doors with their own values. If you hit six or more scatter symbols in a single spin, the Hold and Win feature activates. This immediately locks those six scatters into place and gives you three free spins. If you hit another symbol in those free spins, it stays in place, and the three spins reset. The game continues until all the spots are filled, or you go three spins without hitting another scatter. The winnings are counted up when the round ends, and the game returns to normal.
There is one more feature, which is almost a combination of the two other features. If you land three scatters in a single spin, you get fifteen free spins, and five, ten, or fifteen wilds appear on the board. The wilds change position with every spin, creating the potential for multiple winning lines every time.
Better Than Your Saloon’s Slots
This is a rare game where there is very little to complain about. It looks absolutely amazing, and the added animation to the background makes this game engaging and exciting. If we’re splitting hairs, this game could use a few more theme-related symbols. The features are relatively tame - it would have been cool to have a more interactive mini-game - but they are still leaps and bounds ahead of most online slot features.
